For race fans

Follow the racing, lap by lap

Live timing that is already running before you open it, so you get the whole session rather than the part you were present for. Then the archive behind it: every result, every lap record, and the ratings that say who was actually quick.

Live timing needs a free account. Signing in is a six-digit code sent to your email, with no password to choose.

The session is already being recorded when you arrive

Live timing feeds only ever publish the current standings: each car's last lap, and nothing at all about the lap before it. So a timing page you open at half distance normally shows you half a session, and if nobody happened to be watching, there is nothing to show.

A listener here follows every New Zealand meeting continuously, whether anyone is on the site or not, and writes each lap down as it happens. Open the page at any point and you get the whole run from the start, lap by lap, per driver, exportable as a spreadsheet. Every earlier session of the weekend is still there too, and stays readable after it has finished.

It also knows what a lap is worth. A driver's best lap is checked against their own personal best at that exact circuit layout, and against the standing class and outright records, so a genuine milestone is marked as it happens instead of being noticed weeks later.

That weekend the listener stored 15 meetings and 13,569 laps with nobody watching. A tracked meeting is kept for a week, by which time the official results have arrived.

Sixteen runs at that meeting across four classes, all of them still openable: Open Saloons, Continental Rennsport and BMW E30's, Open Wheelers and Club Saloons.

Told when your driver goes out

Follow the drivers you care about and the site will tell you when one of them is on track, and again when a result lands. Useful if you are following a son, a daughter, a team-mate or a customer from a long way away.

The notifications are deliberately quiet. One message per session, listing every driver you follow who is in it, held back for a couple of minutes first. That wait is the point: a qualifying field trickles out over the opening laps, and a message per car would have you turning notifications off by lunchtime.

Following is free for two drivers. Push notifications and an unlimited list are part of Premium, which is free while it is in beta.

  2. Pick what you hear aboutThree switches: driver results, press coverage, and live timing. All on by default, each one switched off independently.
  3. It arrives on your phoneInstall the site as an app first if you are on iOS. One message per session, never one per lap.

And 78 years behind it

The reason the live page can tell you a lap is a record is that the archive goes back to 1949. Every meeting, every class, every circuit, and a rating for every driver that accounts for how strong the field was rather than just counting wins.

Which means you can settle arguments. Head-to-head between any two drivers who ever shared a grid, outright and class lap records at every layout, the closest rivalries on record, and long-form pieces that dig into what the numbers actually support.

Results, records, leaderboards, circuits, classes and the deep dives are all readable with no account at all. Sign-in is what unlocks live timing, the comparison tools and the full depth of a driver's page.
